Come unto Me and I will give you rest
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." -Pat Robertson Pat Robertson

Embracing evil for the sake of the Kingdom

Christian Political Action
is another Gospel

Christian Political Action is another gospel which cannot save.  What are the goals of Christians who desire, yes, even command (they say that not voting is sin) that we involve ourselves in politics?  Are they going to save the lost by changing the law?  If the Bible says that no one can be saved through the Law of God, can we save "America" by means of the laws of men?

"Their mission is not simply to save souls. The goal is to mobilize evangelical Christians for political action to return society to what they call "the biblical world view of the Founding Fathers." Some speak of 'restoring a Christian nation.' Others shy from that phrase, but agree that the Bible calls them not only to evangelize, but also to transform the culture.

"In material given to conference attendees, the Rev. D. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge pastor wrote: "As the vice-regents of God, we are to bring His truth and His will to bear on every sphere of our world and our society. We are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government ... our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors - in short, over every aspect and institution of human society."

"This is the 10th conference to spread this "cultural mandate" among Christians, and although the church's pastor couldn't speak due to illness, others presented the message intended to rouse the conservative faithful, eager to capitalize on gains won during the November election." (Christian Science Monitor March 16, 2005)

Notice that Kennedy says we are [already] "vice-regents of God."  My, hasn't the Pope been called the Antichrist because he claims the title of "Vicar of Christ?"  Is it true that we already sit on the throne of God as co-kings with Him over the earth?  Has God indeed already given us dominion over the kingdoms of this world?  Jimminny-cricket!  Jesus has returned, the millennium has come, and I must have slept through it!

Just what are men like Robertson, Kennedy, and Caldwell telling us?

Christian Coalition

Our Mission
Represent the pro-family point of view before local councils, school boards, state legislatures and Congress
Speak out in the public arena and in the media
Train leaders for effective social and political action
Inform pro-family voters about timely issues and legislation
Protest anti-Christianity bigotry and defend the rights of people of faith

What We Believe
Christian Coalition of America is a political organization, made up of pro-family Americans who care deeply about becoming active citizens for the purpose of guaranteeing that government acts in ways that strengthen, rather than threaten, families. As such, we work together with Christians of all denominations, as well as with other Americans who agree with our mission and with our ideals.

Today, Christians need to play an active role in government again like never before. If we are going to be able to change policy and influence decisions - from the school boards to Washington, DC - it is imperative that people of faith become committed to doing what Ronald Reagan called "the hard work of freedom". We are driven by the belief that people of faith have a right and a responsibility to be involved in the world around them. That involvement includes community, social and political action. Effective citizen activism begins with knowledge - and the Christian Coalition's ability to break down the complexities of politics and convey those issues clearly is what makes us different. Since its inception, the Christian Coalition has worked to provide critical education and information to the pro-family community in order to challenge and equip individuals and churches to make a difference at all levels of government.

To that end, we continuously work to identify, educate and mobilize Christians for effective political action! Such action will preserve, protect and defend the Judeo-Christian values that made this the greatest country in history.

Get Involved
Yes!   You can make a difference!

Today, Christians are playing an active role in government again by uniting to stand up for families and people of faith. Hundreds of pro-family political leaders have been elected to local, state and federal office. Pro-family activism is changing policy and influencing decisions from school boards all the way to the US Congress. You can help by joining with us.

Add your voice to the millions across America who have said it's time for people of faith to speak up and become involved. With your help, innocent human lives will no longer go unprotected by our laws, more public schools will at least meet minimum standards, and fewer of our young people will be snared by drugs, violence and sexual promiscuity.

Your becoming involved means that Christian Coalition of America can distribute more voter guides and scorecards, train more activists and sway more critical votes in Congress and the states. By joining with us, you won't just sway one vote -- you will impact America forever.

Call To Churches

A story is told about when our young nation was emerging victorious from the American Revolution that a most favorite historian didn't assign credit to those to whom one would normally think credit might be given for such an accomplishment. It wasn't to the generals or to the strategic know-how of brilliant thinking men who intricately orchestrated the attacks to which they gave accolades.

Rather, these historians credited those who seemed the most unlikely to receive such honor. According to them, it was the preachers in black robes who stood behind the pulpits of America to speak out against the crown and against religious intolerance that inspired the potato farmers to lay aside their plows and to follow General George Washington into battle and drive the British from their salient in New Jersey. The Continental Army thus won it's first victory in long months of painful striving, saving the flagging American cause and putting new heart into Washington's men.

Those black-robed preachers who staunchly stood and boldly spoke out against that which was wrong and for that which was right became known as the "Black Regiment of the Continental Army" and were largely credited with turning the tide of the American Revolution. Today, America stands against a myriad of foes both on a cultural and ideological battlefront which are insidiously and incrementally eroding away the heart of the beliefs that brought America to her zenith of greatness.

There remains two final bastions of defense, the home and the church which these forces seem intent on destroying. This battle, which even now rages, isn't one that can be fought with sword and spear but must be addressed in the throne room of the Most High and in the cities, hamlets and townships all across this nation.

At the forefront of this battle has arisen yet another regiment--a regiment of modern-day patriots known as The Christian Coalition of America who have come together for the purpose of giving a voice back to the people of faith in the democratic process. The impact of The Christian Coalition can easily be traced one election at a time as millions of distributed non-partisan voter guides give to the electorate an impartial and accurate record of where potential elected officials stand on issues of importance to pro-family voters. With the approval of the pastor of their local church, anyone can become a participant in helping change their country by becoming a church liaison. As a liaison one may: 1) Conduct voter registration drives in the church; 2) Distribute non-partisan voter guides and legislative scorecards; 3) Form and oversee a Citizenship Ministry in order to help involve fellow church members in Christian citizenship.

It's in the spirit of those early potato farmers that people of varied ethnic, racial and denominational backgrounds have come together to form a coalition committed to upholding the spiritual intent of the founding Father's idea of a nation under God.

America needs today those behind the pulpits who, like The Black Regiment of the Continental Army, will stand up and speak out for right and against wrong, who will inspire the potato farmers to action;undaunted by what they may lose personally, but steeped in the conviction that the alabaster ointment of a nation free under God is a treasure whose worth is too costly to relinquish.

Jerry Falwell

Do these men really put forward the Christian Agenda, i.e. the agenda of Jesus Christ?   Or do they represent something else?  Jesus commanded His followers to, "make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you."  Yet we read nothing about His agenda above.  In fact, His name is not even mentioned.

Falsehoods of the "Christian Right":

  • Lie 1: Political Action can redeem America

This is an outright denial of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Only He can change the hearts of men, and that is where the battle is. There is no fundamental difference between those who advocate political action as the hope of America, and Marx and Lenin seeking to establish a utopian society by changing the political order.

  • Lie 2: America was founded as a Christian nation

The Jamestown settlement was established in hope of finding gold, not God.  The pilgrims on the Mayflower were a mixed lot.  The Mayflower compact was necessary because half the passengers there were not from the Scruby congregation but were aboard for other reasons.  The "founding fathers" were not disciples of Jesus because they did not abide in His word but followed their own worldly ideas and philosophies.  All of the founding fathers were involved in armed rebellion against the government of England.

Yet Jesus said,

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you, Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either, all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword."

And Peter said,

"Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may on account of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of God. Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king."

"Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a man bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.0 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps."

And God spoke through Habakkuk:

"Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed And founds a town with violence!"

Where then are the "Christian principles" that America was founded on?   The principle of disobedience to Christ?  The principle of building a city on bloodshed?  The principle of killing your enemies rather than enduring mistreatment?

And where in the Constitution does it say Jesus is Lord?   Must not this be the first principle of any people calling themselves Christian?   Go to Washington D.C.  Search the monuments for the "Christian" foundations of America.  You will not find them!  What you will find is the god of the Masons and the symbols of Roman imperial power.  You will find War and Man glorified.  But never will you find the confession that JESUS IS LORD!

  • Lie 3: All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

The Bible says salvation is from God and He will not share His glory with another.   'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.  "Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

  • Lie 4: The Bible teaches there is a cultural mandate for Christians

Where does it teach such a thing.  According to those that seek the salvation of the World through politics, it is found in Jesus' calling us to be 'salt' and 'light.'   But what did Jesus actually say?

"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. Rejoice, and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lamp stand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Mat 5:10-16)

Jesus doesn't seem to say anything about transforming or preserving the culture here!  Let's look at what else He said about salt:

"So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned? It is useless either for the soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Luke 14:33-35)

Here Jesus is talking about the cost of following Him.  And that losing one's saltiness is the result of not counting the cost of being His disciple and not being willing to give up everything for Him.  He says that such a person is "worthless" to the Kingdom of God.

What does the Bible have to say about those who would put their trust in the devices of men and their own strength to accomplish the work of God?

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And does not retract His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of the workers of iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God, And their horses are flesh and not spirit; So the LORD will stretch out His hand, And he who helps will stumble And he who is helped will fall, And all of them will come to an end together.(Isaiah 31:1-3)

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jeremiah 2:13)

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. (Jeremiah 17:5)

And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Then Jesus *said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? (Matthew 26:51-53)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. (2 Corinthians 10:3,4)

And it was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them; and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.   And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.  If anyone has an ear, let him hear.  If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints. (Rev 13:7-10)

What else the the New Testament say about the "cultural mandate"?  Well, how about:

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (James 4:4 )

Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

So much for God's opinion about reclaiming America through political action!  Trying to restore America is adultery with the World!  America is the enemy of God.  Why would we want to give aid and comfort to our Father's enemy?   America is a nation of rebels! And America is not our home, nor our we citizens here. Our Father has given us the mission of ambassadors to a world in rebellion.  We bring an offer of pardon and a new life to all who will repent of their rebellion and surrender their lives to Christ Jesus, who is King of kings and Lord of lords.  To the rest we are to bring the warning of eternal woe and suffering.  For all those who will not submit to Christ will receive the justice of God Almighty even if they refuse His grace.

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.  How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb. 10:26-31)

Robertson, Kennedy, Falwell, and the others would have us turn aside from the commission of Christ in order to lift up the banner of a "Christian" America.  They think our priority is to ban abortion, put the homosexuals back in the closet, put generic, powerless, Christ-less prayer back in the schools, and put hypocrites on the bench and in political office.  In whose interest would it be for the disciples of Jesus to turn aside from our God given task to immerse ourselves in the illusion of political power?  Whom do those who promote the "cultural mandate" really serve?

  • Lie 5: The enemy of my enemy is my friend

The essence of politics is compromise.  It is the willingness to be yoked together with unbelievers.  A fundamental error of the Christian Right is the failure to distinguish between the Kingdom of God and the World.  Jesus has not yet returned.   He has not set up His rule over the kingdoms of this World.  The World system is still under the control of Satan, the god of this World.  Or are we to believe that the sin and filth that abound here are the result of the will of God?  Only a diehard Hyper-Calvinist could claim such an abomination!

We are not to join hands with "like-minded" moral and political conservatives.

"Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty. (2Cor 6:14-18)

Are we going to put are trust in Christ and obey His commands, or are we going to go "down to Egypt" to find help?  Are the Mormons our brethren? the Moonies?  Do we have fellowship with those who preach another gospel?  Robertson, Kennedy, Falwell, and others have proven themselves willing to compromise the Word of God and disobey Christ for the sake of political expediency.  Should disciples of Jesus follow men such as these?

Let us imagine for a moment that the promoters of salvation though politics achieved all their hearts desire.  Israel was a nation that really was chosen by God (unlike the United States).  And the national law of Israel was given and made by God (unlike the constitution of the United States).  What did Israel do?   They turned away and built the golden calf.  They turned away and lusted after the food of Egypt.  They rejected God as their King and wanted to be just like the nations and have a human king.  They rejected the Messiah and nailed Him to a tree.   Now what will be the result of legislating righteousness in America?  Will sinners cease from sin?  Will righteousness cover the earth as the waters cover the sea?  Will America become the Kingdom of God on earth?  Or will it follow the same path as Israel...

Jesus said, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."  Do we believe this?

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63 )  Do we believe this?

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. (Galatians 2:16 )  Do we believe this?

You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?  This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?  Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? (Galatians 3:1 )
